Wed: Jenny & Matt at The Breakers
Today's wedding is the perfect example of how you can bring your style and personality as a couple to any venue. 'Casual' may not be the first word that comes to mind with an elegantly gorgeous and historic location like The Breakers, but Jenny and Matt made it their own with a relaxing destination affair filled with personal details and infused with their personalities... and Palm Beach Photography, Inc. was there to capture their beautiful day and share it with us.
From the beautiful bride, Jenny: "The beach is always our first choice, so the location was a no-brainer. We wear suits to work everyday, so we wanted the ambiance of our wedding to be casual and relaxing (thus the no-tux rule). Matt and I both wore flip flops during the reception, which is most of both of our shoe collections."
Jenny told us the sweet story of how Matt proposed:
"Matt and I have a local restaurant, Forbes Mill Steakhouse, where we find ourselves eating all the time. We eat there so often, we consider the staff our family. On February 4, 2011, it was a normal dinner routine and heading out to our normal dinner at Forbes. Well, that night the restaurant was packed, so all the management and servers would come by to chat with us to take a quick 5 minute break from the business of the night. After a 3 hour dinner, we headed home. Little did I know that Matt had a little box in his pocket that just never had a chance to show itself to the world.
"Finishing up our 3rd bottle of wine of the night at home, I jokingly asked Matt 'where’s my ring?'. He replies, 'Go find it'. So, we started a game of hot/cold (cold if you are not close, hot if you are). The game starts in the kitchen. 'Freezing.' I walk into the hallway. 'Hot.' I turn around to face him back in the kitchen. 'Burrrr.' So, I find that every single room in our entire house has a 'hot spot' and also a 'cold spot'. During this 20 minute game, that I think is just a wild goose hunt that will end in something like a WWF match, I am cleaning and picking up laundry. I finally get to the master bedroom, and just as I am throwing a pair of dirty socks in the laundry basket, his tone changed. He says, 'really, really hot'. So, I plop down on the cold tile floor, throw open the cabinet door on his side of the sink, and shove my anxious hands to the back wall. I felt a box, and I immediately turned around, and found Matt squatting down next to me on the cold tile floor. The huge square box had a small bamboo ring case. He asked, and I cried."
The couple brought so many personal elements into their wedding. As favors, they gave each guest a personalized 'message in a bottle' (with pictures for the kids!), provided fun cootie catcher programs and flip-flop bottle openers. To reflect their love of food and drink, the couple balanced the casual feel of their wedding with an extravagant dinner menu - Asian-inspired passed hors d'oeuvre, a dim sum station, and a 5 course sit down meal.
They also organized a couples' dance that I think is a completely steal-worthy idea: "We organized a dance that was to take place prior to the main course. The dance started with our wedding song, and we invited our guests to come join us on the dance floor when they 'hear' the time is right. From there, we played 1-2 minutes of each of their wedding songs, and each of the couples came up and joined us on the dance floor to revisit their own weddings and memories. It was really a special moment for us to experience!" How lovely is that?
Our warmest congrats to Jenny and Matt, and big thanks to Palm Beach Photography for sharing this beautiful day and story with us!
