Engaged: Tiffany & Ryan at Roger Dean Stadium

on by in Weddings & Such

I'm so excited to share this treat of an engagement session with you today, sent to us by Melissa at Stay Forever Photography! Tiffany and Ryan chose a baseball theme and Roger Dean Stadium in Abacoa as the location, which is only natural since Ryan plays in the minor leagues for the Miami Marlins. The shoot is so amazingly adorable, with every photo more lovely and sweet than the last, but their story - about the true beauty of love and friendship, and how things work out when they're just meant to be - is even sweeter. Enjoy!

From Melissa: When Tiffany called us about her engagement idea we were super excited! We started off with the baseball theme and then walked around downtown Abacoa for some more fun shots. The light that day was incredible and I love the last few photos we got to take that night! Tiffany and Ryan were so natural with each other and you can really feel the love they share.

Tiffany and Ryan first met four years ago in North Carolina, where Tiffany was teaching and Ryan was playing minor league baseball. They met a bar, and it was definitely not love at first sight... but their roommates did hit it off, so the two spent the next few months together with them. It wasn't until Ryan left for Chicago in the off-season that they started a friendship that grew over the next three years.

Says Tiffany: We talked every day, all the time, about everything and anything. Throughout this time I had fallen in love with someone else and honestly thought I would be with this guy forever, and Ryan thought I would be too. The day my ex and I broke up I called Ryan bawling my eyes out. He sat on the phone and listened to me for a very long time, and most of the conversation I know he couldn't understand because I was crying so hard. Being the amazing friend he is, the next day I had a dozen roses in all different colors (because he knows I don't like red ones) and some candy at my door. About a week later he offered to fly me out to Arizona to hang out with him and get away from everything. I said ok but was a little apprehensive not knowing how it would be... we hadn't seen each other in so long, and I didn't know if we would have fun or if it would just be awkward, but I agreed and Ryan booked me a ticket for 10 days.

I went out there and had an amazing time. It was the first time in the two and half years we had been friends where we could be totally ourselves together. In Arizona Ryan confessed his love for me; I loved him then so much but only as a friend. For the next six months Ryan did everything in his power to see me as much as possible with him living in Florida and me in North Carolina. He told me he had let me get away once and he wouldn't do it again, and he didn't. By April of 2011 I had finally given in and officially started dating him knowing how much I was already in love with him. We did the whole long distance thing until September when we both moved to Palm Beach Gardens. We figured that would be the best place for us since he was playing with the Miami Marlins and their spring training facility was there.

If you thought the story of how they became a couple was sweet, just wait until you hear the engagement story!

Because Ryan is a great writer, and has many interesting stories from his times in the minor leagues, Tiffany had been trying for some time to get him to write a book. Then, this past December, Ryan told her that he had started writing the book, but wouldn't let her see it. A few days later, he said she could read it... but not until later that night. Says Tiffany, He came back [home] around 9 and told me to sit down and I could begin reading the book. Now at this time I was an english teacher so I began reading this book as if I was editing it. Within the first few minutes I realized this book wasn't exactly what I thought it would be about. This book was about us. He had written a 14 page story about the two of us from the moment we met until that very moment. As I'm reading it, I'm telling him 'you left this out' or 'you need to fix this'. He has me laughing and crying all throughout the story.

The last chapter was titled 'The Engagement'. I began to sweat and was like omg this is happening right now. It was just a paragraph about what I meant to him. I scrolled down to the end looking to see the words 'will you marry me' but they weren't there. I was a little disappointed but I was like ok he will finish this part whenever he does propose to me, whenever that will be. Once I was done reading he asked what I thought. I told him how great it was and how much I loved getting to read his view of us over the years. I got up to give him a hug and that's when he got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of his life with me. The best way to describe how I felt at this moment was I blacked out. I tell everyone I was the drunkest sober person. I can't remember one thing he said to me. I just stood there crying. He had to ask me if I even wanted to try the ring on. It took a good ten minutes before I could even begin to think straight.

It was by far the happiest day of my life. For the wedding we have made the story he wrote into a book for our guests to be able to read our story. We added pictures throughout and we are going to get everyone to sign the book. It took the two of us a long time to figure out just how much we met to each other but we finally got it. The saying, 'what's meant to be will be', was very much made for the two of us.

Isn't that just the sweetest story? And I can't imagine a more meaningful guestbook to have at a wedding! Their family and friends are going to absolutely love it.

I think there is an error somewhere. If the groom plays for the Miami Marlins, they are part of the eastern division of Major league baseball. :)

Hi Jessica! At the time we received their session, Ryan was playing for one of the minor league clubs associated to the Miami Marlins. Not sure on his status now, but I’m sure he or Tiffany could tell you more!
