We're staying down in the Keys today to enjoy a bright, festive, island-inspired affair in Key Largo captured by Bob Care Photography! Peter and Gretta, both graduate school students living in Minnesota, had their dream destination wedding at the Marriott Key Largo Bay Resort... and we're happily sharing it with you today.
The couple met through work, where both of them worked for Peter's family's company. Peter had his eye on her for some time, but had to be patient as he wasn't allowed to date anyone at work. So oddly enough, on Gretta's last day (before she started grad school) Peter was "ecstatic". He worked up the nerve to talk to her, then ask for her number, and after a few weeks of texting, a date.
Before Peter popped the question, he took Gretta's parents out to dinner to ask for their blessing, and told them of his plans to propose to Gretta during their upcoming trip to Mexico. They happily gave him their support, so Peter began his planning.
After teasing her with hints of a "surprise to come", and massages on the beach, the main event came during a dinner out. From the couple: Peter and Gretta went to the main bar in the resort lobby and Peter excused himself. He returned a few minutes later with a concierge to guide them to dinner and he handed Gretta a rose. The concierge guided Peter and Gretta through a windy path through trees and bushes that led out to a secluded area of the beach. Peter and Gretta had a romantic, candle lit table setup with a beach to themselves, with a serene view of the ocean. Gretta was sure this was the extent of the surprise: a romantic dinner on a private area of the beach at sunset... she was wrong.
During their dinner, Peter cued the server to send over the saxophone player he had lined up for their romantic dinner. As soon as Peter got down on one knee to ask Gretta the most important question of his life, the saxophonist cued the music, Peter asked Gretta to marry him, the stars aligned, and Gretta said, "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
The look on Peter's face as he saw Gretta come down the aisle was priceless. Gretta, you looked amazing!
I love the gorgeous, bright, tropical colors the couple chose to fill their day... and those cupcakes? Delish. Peter and Gretta also created the place cards and programs themselves.
Peter and Gretta gave us some advice to share with other brides and grooms-to-be: We recommend visiting your wedding location at least once prior to the wedding for a destination wedding. We visited the Marriott twice prior to the wedding and were in CONSTANT communication with our vendors – all whom were absolutely a dream to work with! Having two photographers on hand the day of the wedding was great! The day flew by and we only remember bits and pieces, but with two photographers we are able to recapture it all.
Congrats, you two! Thanks for sharing your big day with us.
