Matheson Hammock Park is one of those little treasures of Miami that you don't hear enough about. With the pretty palm-lined atoll pool, the Red Fish Grill right there on site, and the gorgeous tree-filled park behind them, it's one of Miami's best parks... and a perfect engagement session location. Thanks to Minerva Photography, we can finally share the beauty of the park (and the stunning pictures, of course) with you!
Lisbeth and Michael have been dating for about six and a half years; Lisbeth was in college in Miami, but they met on Labor Day weekend while she was visiting friends at FSU, where Michael was attending. I loved their sweet - and very realistic - engagement story. 'The best laid plans'...
From Lisbeth: We got engaged 4th of July, 2011. Let's just say his idea didn't work out quite as he planned. He had planned for us to eat at this great, romantic Italian restaurant on Miami Beach. After dinner, we'd walk out to the beach, watch the fireworks in a private, romantic area, and then he would pop the question. Perfect... except you couldn't see the fireworks from that area of the beach (even though he was initially told you could). Plan B was supposed to be a romantic dinner at another Italian restaurant, followed by a quick drive back to his apartment to watch the South Beach fireworks show from his balcony. Again, perfect... except it took 25 minutes to travel 2 miles, which included me getting yelled at by a cop, and parking was nonexistent at the apartment - all culminating in us arriving at the apartment after the South Beach show finished. He apologized that the night did not turn out how he wanted it to be. Me not knowing what he had in mind, I told him it wasn't a big deal since we would be able to see the fireworks next year. Since his balcony faces the ocean on one side and the city on the other, we were able to watch some small fireworks happening in the city. With a sky full of smoke from a recently completed South Beach fireworks show in the background, he looked at me and said "it's not about the beginning, it's about the grand finale and I want to make this your best grand finale ever" and that was when it happened... he got down on one knee, took out the ring and the rest was history. Now that... was perfect.
Michael and Lisbeth are moving right along in the planning for their December wedding, with the ceremony at St. Francis of Sales and the reception outside at Sunset Cove (at the Miami Seaquarium on Key Biscayne). The bride-to-be and her mom are handling many of the projects themselves; says Lisbeth: I still have many things to do, but I am looking forward for the day to come. It is creeping up quite fast!
It will be here before you know it, Lisbeth! Congrats to you and Michael, and thanks to Michelle at Minerva Photography for sharing this lovely session with us.
