Palm Beach Wedding: Mirosia & Adrian at The Brazilian Court

on by in Weddings & Such

Happy Monday! We're lucky to be starting the week with this pretty, pretty Palm Beach wedding at the gorgeous Brazilian Court captured by Claudia Oliver Photography. The tropical palette of green and fuchsia, and the sweet story of how this couple fell in love, will definitely brighten your day!

Mirosia and Adrian's story really captured my heart. It begins in Boston, just after both families had moved to the area - Adrian, age 9, came from Florida and Mirosia, age 7, from Ukraine. Adrian's family is also of Ukrainian descent, and his mother taught Ukrainian Saturday School with Mirosia's father. Their parents became friends, and they developed secret crushes on each other (something they didn't know until much later!) but didn't date in high school and then lost touch after graduation.

But fate brought them together again during Mirosia's senior year of college, as told by the bride: Adrian was a Submarine Officer with the United States Navy and had been stationed in Connecticut. He came to Boston to our church one Sunday and ran into my mother, who gave him my phone number. Of course, I was less than thrilled with my mom meddling in my love life! I was at Harvard for college, which at the time had Fall semester exams after winter break, which was terrible for having any fun over winter vacation. But, my senior year, I happened to have more paper-intensive courses, so I actually had lots of free time. Adrian asked me out and we spent every day of winter break together after that. Our first kiss was on New Year's Eve, which was our anniversary until our wedding on March 18th.

Mirosia chose a meaningful color palette for the day: green, her favorite color ("Both my parents and I have green eyes (I'm an only child) - so it's always been my favorite color. I loved the green of palm leaves which was fitting since our wedding was in Palm Beach!") paired with fuchsia for a tropical feel.

The couple included several Ukrainian traditions in their wedding, says Mirosia: Both my grandmothers embroidered two pieces of cloth called a 'Vyshytiy Rushnyk' for me. Adrian and I stepped on these during our ceremony, symbolizing the hope that we would never face hardship or stand on barren ground. One of my grandmothers had passed away since embroidering the 'Rushnyk', so it was very moving. Adrian and I also walked down the aisle together, which is a Ukrainian tradition. During the ceremony, Adrian's cousin read a poem in Ukrainian chosen by his grandmother. Another tradition we incorporated was being greeted by our parents when we first walked into the reception with traditional gifts of bread, called a 'Korovai' and salt.

Mirosia shared a few of the details they included in their day, including the 'wishes' table number cards (love this idea!): Because we had a destination wedding, we weren't sure what to get our guests that they could easily take on flights, so we gave them paper hearts that had herb seeds mixed in. When planted, the paper hearts grow into herbs. My mom planted her hearts in her garden, and they grew into thyme and rosemary. Adrian and I, unfortunately, didn't inherit green thumbs. Another touch we incorporated was asking our guests to write us wishes for our 1st, 2nd, and so on anniversaries. We used large tent cards as table numbers and asked our guests to write their wishes inside. I think my parents still have the Table #2 card and are still working on their wishes for our 2nd year anniversary.

We loved our wedding. It was incredibly special to have all the people we cared most about in the world with us that day. Adrian and I love being married! We are best friends and support each other intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.
