Alex: "I am a big fan of the modern aesthetic and as a result of that already own quite a bit of modern decor and accessories. I think I struck a nice balance of combining things that I already owned paired with a few colorful DIY elements that I made specifically for the challenge. I really love the crisp and colorfulness of my final look and hope you do too!

"I wanted to play off the dark tones in my dining table and really let the white and colorful accents pop off of it. I chose my favorite colors to decorate with for the holidays: red and turquoise and then chose to add in green for an extra punch of color. "

"I used clean-lined white square plates paired with modern flatware and glassware. I tucked my colorful menus into crisp white napkins on each setting's plate. Red and turquoise satin ribbon were laid out in the center of the table as a runner. In order to give the table an extra pop of color and shimmer I added a turquoise snowflake ornament tied with some colorful baking twine to each setting. I love the David Stark Twig Topiary from West Elm and just had to include it as the centerpiece for the table. I filled some clear glass ornaments with colored glitter and hung them from the branches. Lastly, I love the look of mercury glass and topped off my table with a few mercury votives around the setting.

"I created my own paper goods using colorful japanese washi tape and card stock. I also used the same tape to make the green polka dot drink stirrers for the water glasses.

"I love this silver glitter 'love' sign and thought it added a cute touch to the modern white chair that I had already draped in ribbons. I envision using this to tie the Bride and Groom's chairs together.

"I think every party should have a signature cocktail. It's one of those great details that allow you to show some personality in your event. I took inspiration from one of the images in my board and crafted this 'Sparkling Cranberry Martini'. Not only is it delicious but the end product worked with my color scheme perfectly.

"I hope I have inspired some brides and/or party hosts to give colorful modern a try when it comes to their event's decor. A big thank you to Rebecca and Laura for the opportunity to share this with you all!"

I'm loving Alex's clever use of washi tape - how amazing did the paper goods and stirrers turn out? And those glittered letters? So many possibilities!
