Finding a new-to-us venue is one of things we love most about this gig; but when it's a gorgeously peaceful garden venue, on a day captured so beautifully by Alex of Soul Echo Studios, it's pretty much a (zen) home run. I think you'll feel the same way about this relaxed, lovely day!
Cristina and Darwin are a couple tied together through their passions and talents as musicians... which is exactly how they met, as well. From the bride: I had seen him at some music networking events before we formally met. To my surprise, during one of these events he got up on the mic with his guitar and started performing. I was floored by his amazing voice! I just had to meet him to say I knew him before he was a star. Unfortunately, I was too shy to do anything about it so he left that night without me saying a word.
Later that evening, I was then invited to an afterparty and he just happened to be standing by the door. I knew right then and there I had been given another chance to meet this stranger, so I did. Best decision I ever made.
The two sing professionally together - in the same band - while they both keep separate full-time jobs. As Cristina tells us, that shared passion is what keeps them strong as a couple: We understand the sacrifices each of us has to make in order to practice our craft and really it's the music that brought us together and will keep us together. If one of us is down, the other is always there to lift our spirits and keep each other motivated to keep on pursuing our passion.
I'll admit, I'm half in love with Redland Koi Gardens after seeing this wedding... from the peaceful garden feel, to the natural elements and variety of spaces, it feels so relaxed and perfectly unpretentious! Cristina had always dreamed of getting married outdoors and felt the Gardens were the perfect choice for their wedding day vision: We wanted our guests to enter the space and feel the tranquility for a break from the normal hustle & bustle of everyday life.
How stunning are their sunset portraits? I feel like I'm looking through a window to another place entirely... where it's just the two of them for miles.
Darwin and Cristina were adamant about their vision for an unconventional wedding, and wanted to create a relaxed atmosphere with a cocktail style dinner - sans assigned seating and many of the more traditional wedding elements. They also went for a homemade pie and cookie table rather than a cake, which was pretty adorable! Cristina summed it up perfectly: In the end, it's all about good music, food, and friends (and drinks don't hurt either!). I couldn't agree more.
And, of course, the couple knew they had to do a little something musical... Darwin and I initially thought of singing a ballad together but thought it might be a bit cheesy and boring for our guests. So instead, we jumped onstage with our band and did what we do at any other gig, start the party! We completely surprised everyone!
Don't you just love it when a couple's vision comes to life so perfectly? Congratulations, Cristina and Darwin!
