Signature Cocktail: Tangerine Tango

We're just a little obsessed with Tangerine Tango, the delicious Pantone color of the year. Since it's so perfectly suited to Floridian wedding inspiration, we've decided to feature this bright and happy citrus bombshell throughout the year... so if this is one of your wedding colors, you're in luck! And of course, we just had to start with a cocktail.

I tried to imagine what an Argentine version of a mojito might look like, and this is the (completely non-authentic) result: sweet/tart tangerine juice and ginger-infused simple syrup, muddled lovingly with fresh mint.

Trust me on this one: it's fabulous. The ginger simple syrup has earned a permanent place in my heart (I've been thinking of a gazillion ways to use it) and it's heaven mixed with the sweet pop of tangerine juice and the fresh, crisp mint. Honey tangerines are now in season through April, making this the perfect wedding drink for winter and spring Floridian brides.

Tangerine Tango

This makes a single drink; adjust quantities to your needs

10-15 mint leaves, plus a sprig for garnish
1 oz. ginger simple syrup (see below)
One tangerine
2 oz. light/white rum
Club soda

In a highball or rocks glass, muddle the mint leaves and syrup for about 20-30 seconds, crushing them thoroughly to release the fresh mint scent. Cut a thin slice from the tangerine and reserve for garnish; then cut the rest into quarters and squeeze juice into the glass.

Add rum, stir, then fill glass with ice. Top off with club soda and garnish with a tangerine slice and spring of mint. Delish!

Ginger Simple Syrup
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
3" or so fresh ginger

Peel the ginger and slice it thinly; place in a small saucepan, add water and sugar, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool, leaving ginger pieces in to steep; once cooled, strain into a container (can be stored a few weeks in the fridge).

And, of course, I made a signature cocktail sign and wrapped it up into a download* for you - just print it out and cut between the crop marks. I backed mine with a bright orange card stock to make it pop, but you could leave that off and insert directly into a frame or stand.

Enjoy! And make sure to keep an eye out for more of our Tangerine Tango inspiration in the coming months.
